Finally. After weeks of planning, making travel arrangements and reservations, not to mention the long drive in from the city, you’ve made it to the Oregon Coast.
You pull up to the hotel, step into the lobby, take out your credit card. But just then, when the clerk is getting your key, the question you’ve been quietly avoiding pops into your head.
Now What?
You may want to do “nothing,” but you know the kids are going to need something to keep them occupied, and often. You also know you’re going to have to eat. More than once. But where?
Then you see it.
Right there on the front desk in front of you. A box of answers, in the form of pocket-sized cards. “Whale Watching.” “Wine Tasting.” Wait. “Secret Beaches?” You reach for a card and open it to find all the information you’ll need in the palm of your hand. Local recommendations. Insider tips. You flip the card over and see a map that makes sense even though you’re not familiar to the area. You find yourself taking more cards. “Local Seafood.” “Award Winning Chowder.” “Tap Houses and Breweries.” “Locally caught Smoked Salmon.”
When the clerk returns, she mentions that all the businesses are locally owned and recommended by local residents. You slip the cards in your pocket, quietly confident that when the moment comes, you will be a hero.
